Two and a
Half Men is a television comedy series which covers numberless themes including
dating, divorce, sibling relations, single parenthood, surrogate families, men,
women and money and… love. More specifically, the show is about a high liver
jingle writer, his twice-divorced chiropractor brother, his nephew and the many
women who surround them. Apart from their blood relation and their dislike for
their maternally cold but domineering mother, the Harper brothers have little
in common.
However,
they form a great team. Charlie is a freelance jingle composer with a house at
the beach, a Mercedes in the garage and a Casanova manner. His casual lifestyle
was sharply interrupted when his brother Alan and his nephew Jake came to stay
with him. Generally a gentle and polite person, Alan has some sort of weakness
for women who treat him poorly. Therefore, Charlie tends to banter his younger
brother but ultimately loves him. Jake, the son of Alan and Judith, spends most
of his free time eating, playing guitar, watching television, playing video
games, sleeping and… expelling bodily odors. A fairly good cook and an excellent
poker player, he loves his father and uncle but is often surly toward them.
Other
regular characters include Berta, Evelyn Harper, Judith Melnick and Rose. An
unapologetically blue-collar housekeeper, Berta has Alan and Charlie’s respect
because, after all, the household can’t function properly without her. Charlie
and Alan’s assertive mother, Evelyn Harper expresses a superficial fondness for
both her sons and grandson. Under the circumstances, Alan, Charlie and Jake
avoid interacting with her on most of the occasions. A vindictive woman, Judith
Melnick despises her ex-husband Alan and avails herself of any opportunity to
humiliate him. One of Charlie’s one-night stands and neighbor, Rose became his
stalker. Somewhat crazy and obsessed with Charlie, she uses to sneak into his
room while he’s asleep and try on his underwear. Rose also “has an
undergraduate degree from Princeton University and a master’s degree in
behavioral psychology from Stanford University”.
Despite the
intricacies of their lives, the two brothers have one thing in common… they
both love Jake and want what’s best for him. What are you waiting for?
